Winter Maintenance Tips
  • Engine: If you have any problems now (rough idle, stalling, hard starts, etc.), be sure to have them checked out now. Some problems can get worse in cold weather.
  • Oil: Continue to change your oil and oil filter regularly. Also, some cars may recommend a thinner oil in the winter for better cold-weather lubrication. Check your owner's manual.
  • Cooling System: Have your cooling system professionally flushed every 24 months. Before the onset of winter, be sure to have your hoses inspected to minimize the chances of getting stranded.
  • Windshield Wipers: Purchase new blades if your current ones are old. Also, top off the washer fluid tank and keep an extra gallon in the car.
  • Heater/Defroster: Verify the operation of your heater and defroster to ensure winter comfort and safety. Also, run the air conditioner to keep interior fogging to a mimimum and to keep the system's seals lubricated to prevent refrigerant leaks.
  • Battery: There is no accurate way to detect a weak battery at home before it's too late. Have it checked professionally and if in doubt, replace it. Also, be sure to keep the terminals free of corrosion.
  • Lights: Inspect all lights and replace burned-out bulbs. Clean with a wet rag periodically to increase your visiblity.
  • Exhaust: This is a very good time to have your exhaust system inspected for any pinhole leaks.
  • Tires: Inspect the tread on tires. Also, remember to check tire pressure as it will decrease with a drop in temperature.

Winkler Automotive will cover all these items and more to ensure your safety and comfort during the winter.
